AdSense display ads will now feature the +1 button

 In the next month, Google will introduce the +1 button and the personal recommendations to display ads. The +1 button will start to appear on AdSense for Content and AdSense for Mobile Content display ad formats like image, animated GIF and Flash. +1s will be an additional signal to determine the relevance of an ad, which in turn help to determine which ads should come to the fore.

As we know Google have already launched the +1 button on the Google search and publishing sites to make it easier for people to share and discover content across the web. Soon, users will be able to approve specific ads and makes the ads more likely to feel that their social relations. We believe these recommendations can help your readers notice ads on your site longer, which leads to higher returns.

The better part is that one can opt out the +1 button at ones will. To opt out of +1 features and annotations:

• Sign in to your AdSense account.
• Visit the Allow & block ads tab.
• In the left panel, click Advanced settings.
• Select either Content, Mobile Content, or Mobile Content Apps from the Product drop-down.
• Click the block button in the Social Ads Preference section.

How to change the hostname or computer name in ubuntu

By default you got default hostname or computer name while setting up Ubuntu, but now you need something special to enhance credibility. This is easy but sometimes it my affect your hosting configuration if done properly

Here goes how to :

Edit /etc/hostname and change to the new value through you favorite editor like vi, nano or whatever.

vi /etc/hostname

Edit /etc/hosts like

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
127.1.2.3 ubuntu.com ubuntu        # change to your new hostname/fqdn

New changes will come into being after reboot.

Alternatively you can run following to change without a reboot after editing /etc/hostname :

sudo /etc/init.d/hostname.sh start

Bing Webmaster Tools get integrated with Yahoo one!‏

MSN Bing Webmaster Tools data just got more powerfull as yahoo taffic data has also been integerated into this.

These are major areas you notice the changes in are :

On the Traffic Tab: Traffic summary report and Page Traffic reports will be impacted as follows:

• Impressions – will go up based on combined data numbers across both search engines
• Clicks – will go up based on combined data numbers
• Click Through Rates (CTR) as appropriate for above (change only due to the mathematics involved in the first two items)

No actual rankings will be affected by the combining of data within Bing Webmaster Tools.

As a visual reminder that data is now combined, you will see both the Bing and Yahoo logos directly above the graphs shown on these pages.

Setting up free mail server for a domain with Google

Yep we can setup and configure at our will a mail server for our own domain, absolutely free with Google Apps having limited 50 users. If you need to have more than 50, you need to have Google Apps for Business! Google Apps for business offers 25GB of storage per user, powerful spam filtering, BlackBerry and Outlook interoperability.

Here goes few steps to setup the Mail Server :

1. Follow this link http://www.google.com/a and choose appropriate version of Google Apps. Click on free trial button to proceed or optionally follow this link...

2. Enter the domain or sub-domain to get started.

3. On sign up page fill up you detail and continue...

4. Here you will be asked to create your first administrator account. When you continue, Google will take you to your control panel/Dashboard.

5. Now it's time to verify your domain, click on "Verify domain ownership" and follow the instruction...

 

6. You will get specific instruction to verify your domain selecting appropriate verification method and domain registrar. Opt which ever convenient for you. It may take upto 24 hours to get verified...

7. Verifying the domain would not be suffice to exchange mail until and unless you fix MX records at your DNS server. This routes incoming mail to Google. If you are not able to change the MX records now, test the email service with a temporary email address. When you verify your domain, Google assign a temporary email address to each user account. When you change the MX records at your DNS Server temporary email address will be deactivated automatically.

On the Dashboard select Email from Service settings (most right tab) dropdown that will lead to “How to activate Email” page.

Click on change MX records link to set up email delivery.

Now login to you DNS server and create following MX records having appropriate priority.  Mail Exchange (MX) records direct email to servers for a domain, and are listed in order of priority. If mail can't be delivered using the first priority record, the second priority record is used, and so on.

In order to access the same having more convenient URL, again go to Email setting choosing Email option from Service setting drop down.

In General Tab click on change URL. Select the second custom URL option, Save the changes and follow the instruction to add CNAME at the DNS server.
